Equity Summit for Volunteers (flyer)
This free virtual event is for volunteers across Seattle who support students as tutors, classroom helpers, mentors, and more!
When: Thursday, November 3, 6:30-8 pm
Where: Virtual (Zoom)
What: Equity Summit for Tutors and Volunteers working with children and youth
How can school volunteers create equitable relationships that recognize the academic, social, and emotional strengths and needs of all students, including:
- Students of Color
- LGBTQIA+ students
- English Language Learners
- Neurodivergent children and youth
- Students experiencing housing instability
We will hear directly from high school students who will share their experiences as tutors of elementary school students and as young learners tutored by adult volunteers. Participants will also break into small groups to learn and discuss specific strategies.
This virtual summit will be facilitated by Aaron Carr who presented the Cultural Competency and Antiracist Practices workshop available to SPS volunteers on-demand.
