LIBRARY

From Ms. Bell, the Madison Librarian:   Check out these upcoming Madison library events!

  1. TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORIES

Our Library TWO SENTENCE HORROR STORY contest was a huge success with tons of stories submitted that are guaranteed to leave you startled, stunned, spooked, and terror-stricken! Kids and families can WATCH at their own risk (with the lights on) and then VOTE for their favorite at each grade level by the end of the day Tuesday, November 1st. Happy Halloween!

  1. BOOKS & BITES—NOVEMBER 1ST AT LUNCH

Tuesday, November 1st is our first Books & Bites of the year at lunchtime in the library with Wally Bubelis from the Seattle Public Library. We only have 30 spots per lunch, so students should grab a lunch pass first thing Tuesday morning from the library if they want to attend and bring their lunch and laptop for Kahoot! The theme of our Kahoot trivia this month is “How Well Do You Know Your Teachers?”  Hope to see kids on Tuesday for trivia, book chats, and COOKIES!

  1. BOOK FAIR—TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH

Our Library Book Fair is almost here and it’s a great chance to purchase some books for the holiday season and raise funds for our Library. This year it is finally back IN PERSON and is happening one day only—November 8th. It will be open all day on the stage in the cafeteria and at Math Night the evening of November 8th. Students will be able to browse and choose from hundreds of new releases along with all of this year’s Bulldogs Read books. There will also be a Teacher Wish List table in case students want to purchase a book for a favorite teacher. 15% of every purchase made will come back to our Library to help us purchase new books for Madison students! Cash, check (made out to Barnes & Noble) and credit card will be accepted. Thank you for supporting literacy at Madison!

  1. MEET AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR KWAME ALEXANDER

Author Kwame Alexander (The Crossover) will be speaking with kids and families this Friday, November 4th from 7-8 pm at the Hugo House in Seattle (1634 11th Avenue).  He’ll be talking about his newest book, The Door of No Return, about 11-year-old Kofi in 19th century Ghana, who dreams of water and ends up in a fight for his life. Sponsored by Elliott Bay Book Company and the Hugo House, this event is absolutely free and everyone is welcome, but you do need to reserve your tickets in advance at EventBrite.

P.S.: Here’s what “Black Panther” actor

  1. FIRST CHAPTER FRIDAY

Each week, FIRST CHAPTER FRIDAY will highlight a new book and author from our Bulldogs Read list. Each selection is chosen intentionally to showcase a diverse mix of authors and character experiences. The hope is for students to both see characters and stories that represent and mirror their own lived experiences as well as stories that provide a window into someone else’s experience from which they can learn. In addition to an audio or video of the first chapter being read aloud, each First Chapter Friday contains a summary of the book, picture of the author, and a book trailer or promo. The link to First Chapter Friday will update with a new book each Monday and is available on Ms. Bell’s Schoology page. Our featured book this week is One for All by Lillie Lainoff, a reconceiving of The Three Musketeers, centering a heroine with a disability.
