MESSAGE FROM DR. GARY

Dear Madison Families,

Out of an abundance of caution Madison Middle School was evacuated at approximately 11:15 a.m. due to a threat toward the school that was called into the Seattle Police Department (SPD). As we were evacuating and keeping students safe, SPS department of communications notified families of the evacuation.

SPD’s bomb squad completed an inspection and deemed it safe for students and staff to return to the building at approximately 12:40 p.m.

We understand that even though the building was deemed safe and learning continued, some students felt anxious and many of you (parents/guardians) came to school to sign out your child. Madison has established protocols for dismissing students in an emergency situation, which takes time and with many individuals working together. Your patience was appreciated and we will work to improve the check out process, while keeping student safety our priority.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at rgary@seattleschools.org

Sincerely,

Principal Gary
Madison Middle School
